Borrasca Sidechainer 3

Borrasca Sidechainer 3 is a sidechaining device for Ableton Live Suite 11.

The device has been rebuilt from the ground up and has an updated UI since version 2.

Version 3 Features

• Sample accurate audio- and/or MIDI triggering
• Volume shaping & RM sidechaining
• New and better transient detection algorithm from github.com/rconstanzo/SP-tools
• 2-band split option with a 6db/oct or 18db/oct crossover and independent settings for both bands
• Pre-fade and latency from 0ms to 10ms
• Oscilloscope displays audio trigger overlaid with the final volume envelope
• Turn off ”SC Input” to use the main input as the audio trigger; place device on drums and gate them
• If ”MIDI Input” is enabled, MSEGs will only be triggered by MIDI notes. Audio input is still used for the oscilloscope & RM sidechaining
• ”Gate” button will invert the RM sidechaining to perform gating instead of ducking
• Optional clipping stage at the output
• Includes separate devices for single band and 2-band split. Latter has longer loading time and consumes more CPU.

April 9th 2024 Update:

• The device used to sometimes output clicks (1 sample long dips in volume) at the end of the curve because of a math error. Fixed.
• Less CPU consumption from both 1-band and 2-band devices. 16 instances of 2-band device went from 16% to 11% CPU usage on my end.

Installation

Move Borrasca Sidechainer 3.amxd to:

Windows: \Users\[username]\Documents\Ableton\User Library\Presets\Audio Effects\Max Audio Effect

Mac: Macintosh HD/Users/[username]/Music/Ableton/User Library/Presets/Audio Effects/Max Audio Effect
